Nothing too new around here. Same old same old really. I did however shoot a turkey last weekend. Woohoo! It had a 10 1/2" beard and weighed around 24-25lbs. Chad and I went out on Saturday and busted our butts trying to get one, they were all over but couldn't get them to cooperate. And we had to quit because I had a photoshoot that morning. So we were back up at 3:15am on Sunday to go and decided once we got out in the field where we would sit. We sat on this fence line and we were hearing a tom gobbling not far from us in this small wood patch, so we were hoping he'd come our way. Well 4 hens flew down to the field and a single tom followed and then 2 more toms. They weren't close enough to get a shot at and weren't showing any sign of coming in any closer. But the lone tom had moved up the hill and started circling back around, we didn't think he was the dominant bird or the biggest til he worked his way closer and closer to our decoys. He never gobbled or strutted, but that didn't matter to me, all I cared about was getting a shot. hahaha Chad had the video camera rolling and when he got about 25 yards from us I shot and he dropped. It was awesome! The cutest part about the whole thing was playing the video back for Cole. He is a little hunter at heart, that's for sure. He was watching the video and he was telling us to "be very quiet, he's hunting turkey's" and then when I shot he screamed "bang bang bang, I got it". hahaha He's eyes got huge and he smiled from ear to ear. It was hilarious.
No plans for the holiday weekend thus far. Might go fishing on the Mississippi River, not sure yet. Took the kids fishing last night and had Chad drop Kinsey and I off at home because Kinsey is just too busy for fishing in the fishing boat, we'll wait until we get the pontoon in to take her back out.
I'll post some pics from fishing once I get them off my memory card.
Better go, Cole's ready to go outside.
